In 2007 a major re-development of the area to the side of the house was completed which provides a utilities section for all the recycling bins we have nowadays, a working area and a fernery, whilst at the same time preserving its underlying purpose as a dog compound and providing an interesting entrance to the garden. In time the planting will hide the utilities area and frame the entrance to the garden through the pergola and arch. Our soil is light and sandy but is slightly heavier in this part of the garden so we have planted some climbing roses - a first in our garden due to soil conditions! 2009 saw the re-development of the part of the garden around the shed. This involved the construction of three arches leading into this area and a small circular bog garden. 2010 saw some major re-planting of the main herbaceous borders and the introduction of borders specific to certain plant species.
There are some barked paths and the ponds are unfenced.
